✧ Prohibition of addressing the hypocrite as "Our Lord

أَخْبَرَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللهِ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاذُ بْنُ هِشَامٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي عَنْ قَتَادَةَ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ بُرَيْدَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ أَنَّ نَبِيَّ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ

لَا تَقُولُوا لِلْمُنَافِقِ سَيِّدَنَا فَإِنَّهُ إنْ يَكُ سَيِّدَكُمْ فَقَدْ أَسْخَطْتُمْ رَبَّكُمْ

Translation

Chain of narrators
  1. ʿUbaydullāh b. Saʿīd
  2. Muʿādh b. Hishām from my father
  3. Qatādah
  4. ʿAbdullāh b. Buraydah from his father
  5. Nabī Allāh ﷺ

✧ Do not say to the hypocrite 'our master,' for if he is your master, you have angered your Lord.
