machine translationAl-Ḥasan b. ʿAlī al-Ḥulwānī and ʿAbd b. Ḥumayd narrated to us, both saying: Yaʿqūb, who is the son of Ibrāhīm b. Saʿd, narrated to us: my father narrated to us, from Ṣāliḥ, from Ibn Shihāb: Sālim b. ʿAbdullāh informed me that [unclear] ﷺ, and with him was a group of his Companions, among them ʿUmar b. al-Khaṭṭāb, until he found Ibn Ṣayyād, a boy who had nearly reached puberty, playing with the boys by the fortress of Banū Muʿāwiyah. He related the hadith like the hadith of Yūnus up to the end of the hadith of ʿUmar b. Thābit. In the hadith from Yaʿqūb, he said: Ubayy said — meaning concerning the words "if she had left him, he would have made clear" — he said: "If his mother had left him, he would have made his affair clear."
