✧ I was in Kufa when it was said that the Dajjal had emerged. He said: We came to Hudhayfah ibn Asid while he was narrating, and I said: This Dajjal has emerged. He said: Sit. So I sat. Then the arif came to me and said: This Dajjal has emerged, and the people of Kufa are fighting him. He said: Sit. So I sat. Then it was announced that it was a lie, a dyer. He said: We said: O Abu Sarihah, you only made us sit for some matter, so narrate to us. He said: If the Dajjal were to emerge in your time, the children would pelt him with pebbles. But the Dajjal will emerge amid hatred from the people, scantiness of religion, and evil discord. He will come to every watering place, and the earth will be folded for him like the folding of a ram's hide, until he comes to Madinah. He will prevail over its outskirts and be barred from its interior. Then he will go to the mountain of Iliya' and besiege a band of Muslims. Those who are over them will say: What are you waiting for with this tyrant? Fight him until you meet Allah or victory is granted to you. They will resolve to fight him when morning comes. When morning comes, Jesus son of Mary will be with them, and he will kill the Dajjal and rout his companions, until even the tree, the stone, and the clod say: O believer, here is a Jew with me, so kill him. He said: In him are three signs: he is one-eyed, and your Lord is not one-eyed; and written between his eyes is 'kafir,' which every believer, literate or illiterate, reads. And no mount will be subjected to him except the donkey—so he is filth upon filth. Then he said: I am more afraid for myself and for you of other than the Dajjal. He said: We said: What is it, O Abu Sarihah? He said: “Tribulations like patches of dark night.” He said: We said: Which people are worst in it? He said: “Every eloquent preacher and every rider who spreads (news).” We said: Which people are best in it? He said: “Every rich person who is hidden.” I said: I am neither rich nor hidden. He said: “Then be like the weaned camel calf: no back to be ridden and no udder to be milked.”
