✧ Shortening the Prayer During Travel and What Came About Combining Two Prayers

حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ، عَنْ عَطَاءٍ، عَنْ أَبِي مَعْبَدٍ، قَالَ:
كُنَّا مَعَ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ؓ فِي سَفَرٍ، فَغَابَتِ الشَّمْسُ، فَقِيلَ لَهُ: يَا أَبَا الْعَبَّاسِ، الصَّلَاةَ ؟ فَقَالَ: إِنَّا قَوْمٌ سَفْرٌ، ثُمَّ سَارَ حَتَّى أَتَى مَرَّ الظَّهْرَانِ فَنَزَلَ، وَإِنَّ بَيْنَهُ وَبَيْنَ حَيْثُ قِيلَ لَهُ: الصَّلَاةَ حِينَ غَابَتِ الشَّمْسُ فَرْسَخَيْنِ

✧ We were with Ibn 'Abbas ؓ on a journey. The sun set, and it was said to him: 'O Abu al-'Abbas, the prayer?' He said: 'We are a traveling people.' Then he traveled on until he reached Marr al-Zahran and dismounted. Between where he was when it was said to him 'the prayer' at sunset and Marr al-Zahran was two farsakhs.
