✧ When one says the first takbir

وَقَالَ مُسَدَّدٌ: حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى، عَنْ عَوْفٍ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ، قَالَ: ( بَلَغَنِي أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ

كَانَ يَقُولُ إِذَا افْتَتَحَ الصَّلَاةَ: اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ الرَّجِيمِ، مِنْ هَمْزِهِ، وَنَفْثِهِ، وَنَفْخِهِ. قِيلَ: مَا هَمْزُهُ ؟ قَالَ: هَمْزُهُ: الْمُوتَةُ الَّتِي تَأْخُذُ بَنِي آدَمَ، وَنَفْثُهُ: الشِّعْرُ، وَنَفْخُهُ: الْكِبْرُ

Translation

✧ When he began the prayer, he would say: 'O God, I seek refuge in You from the accursed Satan, from his madness, his poetry, and his pride.' It was said: What is his madness? He said: His madness is the seizure that afflicts the children of Adam, his poetry is verse, and his pride is arrogance.
