✧ Intercession, Including Hadiths about the Resurrection

وَقَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ: حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ، ثَنَا زُهَيْرٌ، ثَنَا أَبُو خَالِدٍ يَزِيدُ الْأَسَدِيُّ، ثَنَا عَوْنُ بْنُ أَبِي جُحَيْفَةَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي عَلْقَمَةَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي عَقِيلٍ الثَّقَفِيِّ، قَالَ:

انْطَلَقْتُ فِي وَفْدِ ثَقِيفَ، فَأَتَيْنَا رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ، فَأَقَمْنَا بِالْبَابِ وَمَا فِي النَّاسِ أَبْغَضُ إِلَيْنَا مِنْ رَجُلٍ نَلِجُ عَلَيْهِ، فَمَا خَرَجْنَا وَفِي النَّاسِ أَحَبُّ إِلَيْنَا مِنْ رَجُلٍ نَدْخُلُ عَلَيْهِ، فَقَالَ قَائِلٌ مِنَّا: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أَلَا سَأَلْتَ رَبَّكَ مُلْكًا كَمُلْكِ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ دَاوُدَ ؟ فَضَحِكَ ﷺ، ثُمَّ قَالَ: لَعَلَّ لِصَاحِبِكُمْ عِنْدَ اللهِ تَعَالَى أَفْضَلَ مِنْ مُلْكِ سُلَيْمَانَ، إِنَّ اللهَ تَعَالَى لَمْ يَبْعَثْ نَبِيًّا إِلَّا أَعْطَاهُ دَعْوَةً، فَمِنْهُمْ مَنِ اتَّخَذَ بِهَا دُنْيَا فَأُعْطِيَهَا، وَمِنْهُمْ مَنْ دَعَا بِهَا عَلَى قَوْمِهِ إِذْ عَصَوْهُ فَأُهْلِكُوا بِهَا، وَإِنَّ اللهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ قَدْ أَعْطَانِي دَعْوَةً فَاخْتَبَأْتُهَا شَفَاعَةً عِنْدَ رَبِّي لِأُمَّتِي يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ

✧ I set out with the delegation of Thaqif, and we came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. We stayed at the door, and there was no one among the people more hateful to us than a man we would enter upon. Yet when we left, there was no one among the people dearer to us than a man we would enter upon. Then one of us said, 'O Messenger of Allah, why did you not ask your Lord for a kingdom like the kingdom of Sulayman b. Dawud?' He ﷺ laughed, then said: 'Perhaps your companion has with Allah, exalted be He, something better than the kingdom of Sulayman. Allah, exalted be He, did not send any prophet except that He gave him a supplication. Some of them used it to seek worldly things and were given it, and some of them supplicated with it against their people when they disobeyed him, and they were destroyed by it. And Allah, mighty and majestic be He, has given me a supplication, and I have concealed it as intercession with my Lord for my community on the Day of Resurrection.'
