✧ There was a man at the time of the Prophet ﷺ who would go on military expeditions with us. When he returned and dismounted from his riding camel, he would head to the mosque and pray in it, prolonging the prayer, until some of the Companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ thought that he had virtue over them. One day he passed by while the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was sitting among his Companions. One of his Companions said to him ﷺ: 'That is him.' So he either sent for him or he came on his own. When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saw him approaching, he said: 'By the One in Whose hand is my soul, indeed between his eyes there is a dark mark from Satan.' When he stood before the gathering, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him: 'Did you say within yourself when you stood: There is no one among the people better than me?' He said: 'Yes.' Then he left and went to a corner of the mosque, drew a line with his foot, then aligned his heels and stood to pray.
