✧ I entered upon the Prophet ﷺ during his illness, and he had a red band — or he said: a yellow band. He said: 'O cousin, take this band and bind my head with it.' So I bound his head with it. He said: Then he leaned on me until we entered the mosque. He said: 'O people, I am but a human like you. Perhaps my departure from among you has drawn near. Whoever I have wronged in his honor, his person, his hair, or his wealth, here is Muhammad’s honor, hair, person, and wealth; let him rise and take retribution. And let none of you say: I fear enmity and hatred from Muhammad. Indeed, they are not part of my nature nor my character.' He said: Then he left. The next day I came to him, and he said: 'O cousin, I do not think that my standing yesterday sufficed for me. Take this band and bind my head with it.' He said: So I bound his head with it. He said: Then he ﷺ leaned on me until he entered the mosque and said the same as his speech the day before. Then he ﷺ said: 'The most beloved of you to us is the one who seeks retribution.' He said: A man stood up and said: 'O Messenger of Allah, do you remember the day a beggar came to you and asked you, and you said: Who has something to lend us? And I lent you three dirhams.' He ﷺ said: 'O Fadl, give it to him.' So I gave it to him. Then he ﷺ said: 'Whoever is overcome by something, let him ask us so that we may supplicate for him.' He said: A man stood up and said: 'O Messenger of Allah, I am a cowardly man who sleeps a lot.' Al-Fadl said: I later saw him as the bravest of us and the one who slept the least. He said: Then he ﷺ came to Aisha’sws house and said to the women the same as he had said to the men.
