✧ I came upon Abu Jahl on the day of Badr, and I approached him and struck him, and Allah Almighty killed him. I came to the Prophet ﷺ and told him, and I found 'Aqil b. Abi Talib with him as a captive. He said: Was it you who killed him? I said: Yes. He said: You lie! I said: O enemy of Allah, do you call me a liar? He said: What mark did you see on him? I said: I saw on his thigh a ring like the ring of a camel. He said: You spoke the truth; it is a brand of fire with which he was cauterized for pain. He said: Abu Jahl said: What does the raging war resent of me, a mature camel of two years, a six-year-old; for such a one my mother bore me.
