✧ He narrates from Abd al-Rahman b. Udays al-Balawi, who was among those who pledged allegiance under the tree. He ascended the pulpit, praised God Almighty and extolled Him, then mentioned Uthman ؓ and disparaged him. Abu Thawr said: I entered upon Uthman ؓ while he was besieged, and I said: "Ibn Udays said such-and-such." Uthman ؓ said: "From what [fault]? I have taken refuge with God, Mighty and Majestic, ten times: I am the fourth of four in Islam; the Messenger of God ﷺ married me to his daughter, then his daughter; I pledged allegiance to the Messenger of God ﷺ with my hand, and I did not cover my private part with it, nor did I sing, nor did I wish [for what is forbidden], nor did I drink wine in the Jahiliyyah or in Islam..." (the hadith).
