وَقَالَ أَبُو يَعْلَى: حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ عَرَفَةَ، ثَنَا الْوَلِيدُ بْنُ الْفَضْلِ، عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ الْعِجْلِيِّ، عَنْ حَمَّادِ ابْنِ أَبِي سُلَيْمَانَ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ النَّخَعِيِّ، عَنْ عَلْقَمَةَ، عَنْ عَمَّارِ بْنِ يَاسِرٍ - ؓ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ:

يَا عَمَّارُ، أَتَانِي جِبْرِيلُ عَلَيْهِ الصَّلَاةُ وَالسَّلَامُ آنِفًا، فَقُلْتُ: يَا جِبْرِيلُ، حَدِّثْنِي بِفَضَائِلِ عُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ ؓ، فَقَالَ: يَا مُحَمَّدُ، لَوْ حَدَّثْتُكَ بِفَضَائِلِ عُمَرَ ؓ مِثْلَ مَا لَبِثَ نُوحٌ فِي قَوْمِهِ أَلْفَ سَنَةٍ إِلَّا خَمْسِينَ عَامًا، مَا نَفِدَتْ فَضَائِلُ عُمَرَ، وَإِنَّ عُمَرَ ؓ لَحَسَنَةٌ مِنْ حَسَنَاتِ أَبِي بَكْرٍ ؓ

✧ "O Ammar, Jibril ﷺ came to me just now. I said: 'O Jibril, tell me about the virtues of Umar b. al-Khattab ؓ.' He said: 'O Muhammad, if I were to tell you the virtues of Umar ؓ for as long as Nuh remained among his people—nine hundred and fifty years—his virtues would not be exhausted. Indeed, Umar ؓ is one good deed among the good deeds of Abu Bakr ؓ.'"
