al-Matalib al-'Aliyah 457

✧ On the virtue of remaining in the mosque

قَالَ أَبُو دَاوُدَ: حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبِي حُمَيْدٍ، ثَنَا سَعِيدٌ الْمَهْرِيُّ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ؓ، قَالَ: إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ:

« أَفْضَلُ الرِّبَاطِ انْتِظَارُ الصَّلَاةِ، وَلُزُومُ مَجَالِسِ الذِّكْرِ، وَمَا مِنْ عَبْدٍ يُصَلِّي ثُمَّ يَقْعُدُ فِي مُصَلَّاهُ إِلَّا لَمْ تَزَلِ الْمَلَائِكَةُ تُصَلِّي عَلَيْهِ حَتَّى يُحْدِثَ أَوْ يَقُومَ »

Translation

✧ The best form of ribat (keeping guard) is awaiting the prayer and keeping to the gatherings of remembrance. No servant prays and then remains seated in his place of prayer but that the angels continue to send blessings upon him until he breaks his ablution or gets up.
