وَقَالَ مُسَدَّدٌ: حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى، عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ، عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ وَهْبٍ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ حُذَيْفَةَ ؓ، يَقُولُ:
مَاتَ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْمُنَافِقِينَ فَلَمْ أُصَلِّ عَلَيْهِ، فَقَالَ عُمَرُ ؓ: مَا مَنَعَكَ أَنْ تُصَلِّيَ عَلَيْهِ ؟ قُلْتُ: إِنَّهُ مِنْهُمْ، فَقَالَ: أَبِاللهِ مِنْهُمْ أَنَا ؟ قُلْتُ: لَا، قَالَ: ( فَبَكَى )

✧ A man from the hypocrites died, and I did not pray over him. Umar ؓ said: "What prevented you from praying over him?" I said: "He was one of them." He said: "Am I, by Allah, one of them?" I said: "No." He said: (Then he wept).
