وَقَالَ الْحَارِثُ: حَدَّثَنَا ( سُرَيْجُ ) بْنُ يُونُسَ، ثَنَا مَرْوَانُ هُوَ ابْنُ مُعَاوِيَةَ، حَدَّثَنِي خُصَيْفٌ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ قَالَ:

« بَعَثَ النَّجَاشِيُّ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ وَفْدًا مِنْ أَصْحَابِهِ، الْحَدِيثَ. وَأُنْزِلَتْ فِيهِمْ: لَتَجِدَنَّ أَشَدَّ النَّاسِ عَدَاوَةً لِلَّذِينَ آمَنُوا الْيَهُودَ وَالَّذِينَ أَشْرَكُوا وَلَتَجِدَنَّ أَقْرَبَهُمْ مَوَدَّةً لِلَّذِينَ آمَنُوا الَّذِينَ قَالُوا إِنَّا نَصَارَى ذَلِكَ بِأَنَّ مِنْهُمْ قِسِّيسِينَ وَرُهْبَانًا وَأَنَّهُمْ لا يَسْتَكْبِرُونَ الْآيَةَ

Translation

✧ "The Negus sent to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ a delegation from among his companions," the hadith. And the verse was revealed concerning them: "You will surely find the most intense of people in animosity toward those who believe are the Jews and those who associate others with Allah; and you will surely find the nearest of them in affection to those who believe are those who say, 'We are Christians.' That is because among them are priests and monks, and they are not arrogant."
