وَقَالَ إِسْحَاقُ: أَخْبَرَنَا رَوْحُ بْنُ عُبَادَةَ، أَنَا مَالِكٌ، عَنِ الْعَلَاءِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ قَالَ: إِنَّ أَبَا سَعِيدٍ مَوْلَى عَامِرِ ابْنِ كُرَيْزٍ أَخْبَرَهُ
أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ دَعَا أُبَيَّ بْنَ كَعْبٍ ؓ وَهُوَ يُصَلِّي فِي الْمَسْجِدِ فَالْتَفَتَ إِلَيْهِ، فَلَمَّا صَلَّى لَحِقَهُ فَوَضَعَ يَدَهُ فِي يَدِهِ فَقَالَ: « أَرْجُو أَلَّا تَخْرُجَ مِنَ الْمَسْجِدِ حَتَّى تَعْلَمَ سُورَةً مَا أَنْزَلَ اللهُ تَعَالَى فِي التَّوْرَاةِ وَلَا فِي الْإِنْجِيلِ مِثْلَهَا ». قَالَ: فَجَعَلْتُ أُبْطِئُ فِي الْمَشْيِ رَجَاءَ أَنْ يَذْكُرَ ذَلِكَ، فَقُلْتُ: الَّذِي وَعَدْتَنِي يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ ؟ فَقَالَ ﷺ: « مَا تَقْرَأُ إِذَا اسْتَفْتَحْتَ الصَّلَاةَ ؟ » فَقُلْتُ: الْحَمْدُ لِلهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ حَتَّى أَتَيْتُ عَلَى آخِرِ السُّورَةِ، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ « هِيَ السَّبْعُ الْمَثَانِي وَالْقُرْآنُ الْعَظِيمُ الَّذِي أُعْطِيتُ
Translation

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ called Ubayy b. Ka'b ؓ while he was praying in the mosque, so he turned to him. When he finished praying, he caught up with him and placed his hand in his hand, saying: “I hope you will not leave the mosque until you learn a surah the like of which Allah the Exalted has not sent down in the Torah or the Gospel.” He said: So I began to walk slowly, hoping that he would mention it, and I said: What you promised me, O Messenger of Allah? He ﷺ said: “What do you recite when you begin the prayer?” I said: Al-hamdu lillahi rabb al-'alamin until I came to the end of the surah. The Prophet ﷺ said: “It is the seven oft-repeated verses and the great Qur'an that I have been given.”
