✧ The Messenger of God ﷺ delivered a sermon to us, and in it he admonished us with a discourse that made eyes shed tears, hearts tremble, skins shiver, and inner organs quake. He ﷺ commanded Bilal ؓ, who called out: Prayer in congregation! Then he mentioned the hadith in full, in which there is: "Whoever chooses this world over the Hereafter, his is the Fire. Whoever honors a man of worldly status and praises him out of greed for his worldly goods, God Almighty is displeased with him, and he will be in the rank of Qarun in the lowest part of Hell. Whoever builds a building for show and reputation, on the Day of Resurrection he will be made to carry it from seven earths, with fire blazing around his neck, then thrown into the Fire." It was said: How does one build a building for show and reputation? He said: "He builds beyond what suffices him, and he builds it for display. Whoever learns the Quran but does not act upon it, and prefers the fleeting goods and adornment of this world over it, incurs the displeasure of God Almighty, and he will be in the rank of the Jews and Christians who cast the Book of God Almighty behind their backs and sold it for a small price. Whoever is discontent with his provision and spreads his complaint, no good deed of his will be raised to God Almighty, and he will meet God, Mighty and Majestic, while He is displeased with him. Whoever marries a woman lawfully with lawful wealth, intending thereby pride and showing off, God Almighty will only increase him in humiliation and disgrace, and God Almighty will stand him, in proportion to what he enjoyed from her, on the brink of Hell, then he will fall into it for seventy autumns. Whoever humiliates a poor Muslim because of his poverty and belittles him, he has belittled the right of God Almighty, and he will remain in God Almighty's hatred and displeasure until he appeases him. Whoever honors a poor Muslim will meet God Almighty on the Day of Resurrection while He is smiling at him. Whoever is presented with this world and the Hereafter and chooses this world over the Hereafter will meet God Almighty without any good deed with which to protect himself from the Fire, but if he chooses the Hereafter over this world, he will meet God Almighty while He is pleased with him. Whoever's eyes shed tears out of fear of God, Blessed and Exalted, for every drop of his tears he will have the like of Mount Uhud in his scale, and for every drop that falls from his eye he will have in Paradise, on its edge, cities and palaces such as no eye has seen, no ear has heard, and has never occurred to the heart of any describer."
