✧ The Virtue of Mixing with People

قَالَ إِسْحَاقُ: أَنَا جَرِيرٌ، عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ، عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ قَالَ: قَالَ صَعْصَعَةُ بْنُ صُوحَانَ لِابْنِ زَيْدٍ يَعْنِي ابْنَ صُوحَانَ: «

أَنَا كُنْتُ أَحَبَّ إِلَى أَبِيكَ مِنْكَ، وَأَنْتَ إِلَيَّ مِنَ ابْنِي، خَصْلَتَانِ أُوصِيكَ بِهِمَا: خَالِصِ الْمُؤْمِنَ، وَخَالِقِ الْفَاجِرَ، فَإِنَّ الْفَاجِرَ يَرْضَى مِنْكَ بِالْخُلُقِ الْحَسَنِ، وَإِنَّهُ لَحَقٌّ عَلَيْنَا أَنْ نُخَالِصَ الْمُؤْمِنَ

Translation

✧ I was dearer to your father than you, and you are dearer to me than my son. Two traits I enjoin upon you: be sincere to the believer and associate with the wicked, for the wicked is pleased with you by good character, and it is a right upon us to be sincere to the believer.
