✧ Censure of Lying and Praise of Truthfulness

قَالَ مُسَدَّدٌ: حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ، عَنْ عُمَرَ بْنِ عَطِيَّةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ دَلَّافٍ، عَنْ عَمِّهِ، عَنْ بِلَالِ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ، عَنْ عُمَرَ ؓ، أَنَّهُ قَالَ:

لَا يَغُرَّنَّكَ صَلَاةُ امْرِئٍ، وَلَا صِيَامُهُ، وَلَكِنْ إِذَا حَدَّثَ صَدَقَ، وَإِذَا اؤْتُمِنَ أَدَّى، وَإِذَا أَشْفَى وَرِعَ.

✧ Do not be deceived by a person's prayer or fasting, but if he speaks he is truthful, if he is entrusted he fulfills, and if he is given charge he is scrupulous.
