✧ “Which of you would love never to be ill?” We hurried to answer, saying, “We would, O Messenger of God.” He said, “Would you love to be like braying donkeys?” The Prophet ﷺ changed color until we saw the change in his face. Then the Messenger of God ﷺ said, “Would you not love to be people of trial and expiations?” They said, “Yes, O Messenger of God.” He ﷺ said, “By Him in whose hand is my soul, the believer is surely tried with affliction, and that is a mark of honor for him with God Most High. He is surely tried with affliction until he attains thereby a station with God Most High that he would not attain without being tried with it, and God Most High brings him to that station." (marfu')
