✧ How Confession to Zina Is Made, the Ruler's Reviewing the One Who Confesses, Leaving the Confessor If He Retracts, and Dissuasion from Zina

قَالَ إِسْحَاقُ: أَخْبَرَنَا جَرِيرٌ، عَنْ مُسْلِمٍ الْأَعْوَرِ، عَنْ حَبَّةَ بْنِ جُوَيْنٍ، عَنْ عَلِيٍّ ؓ قَالَ:
إِنَّ امْرَأَةً أَتَتْهُ، فَقَالَتْ: إِنِّي زَنَيْتُ. فَقَالَ: لَعَلَّكِ أُتِيتِ وَأَنْتِ نَائِمَةٌ فِي فِرَاشِكِ، أَوْ أُكْرِهْتِ ؟ قَالَتْ: أُتِيتُ طَائِعَةً غَيْرَ مُكْرَهَةٍ. قَالَ: لَعَلَّكِ غُصِبْتِ عَلَى نَفْسِكِ ؟ قَالَتْ: مَا غَضِبْتُ، فَحَبَسَهَا، فَلَمَّا وَلَدَتْ وَشَبَّ ابْنُهَا جَلَدَهَا

✧ A woman came to him and said: 'I have committed adultery.' He said: 'Perhaps you were approached while asleep in your bed, or were you coerced?' She said: 'I was approached willingly, not coerced.' He said: 'Perhaps you were overpowered?' She said: 'I was not forced.' He detained her, and when she gave birth and her son grew up, he had her flogged.
