✧ The Night of Decree

وَقَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْوَلِيدِ الْقُرَشِيُّ، ثَنَا الْوَلِيدُ هُوَ ابْنُ مُسْلِمٍ، أَخْبَرَنِي سَالِمٌ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ مُحَمَّدَ بْنَ عَمْرِو بْنِ عُثْمَانَ يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ؓ قَالَ:

إِنَّ الْجُهَنِيَّ قَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، نَحْنُ غَيْبٌ قَدْ عَلِمْتَ، وَلَا نَسْتَطِيعُ أَنْ نَحْضُرَ هَذَا الشَّهْرَ، فَأَخْبِرْنَا بِلَيْلَةِ الْقَدْرِ ؟ قَالَ: قُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، هَذِهِ لَيْلَةُ ثَلَاثٍ وَعِشْرِينَ، وَهِيَ لِثَمَانٍ يَبْقَيْنَ ؟ قَالَ: كَلَّا، هَذَا الشَّهْرُ يَنْقُصُ، وَهِيَ لِسَبْعٍ يَبْقَيْنَ

✧ Al-Juhani said: O Messenger of God, we are far away, as you know, and we are not able to attend this month. So tell us (the date of) the Night of Decree. He said: I said: O Messenger of God, this is the night of the twenty-third, and it is when eight remain? He said: No, this month decreases, and it is when seven remain.
