✧ The Permission to Break the Fast while Traveling and the Validity of the Fast of One Who Fasts during It

وَقَالَ مُسَدَّدٌ: حَدَّثَنَا الْمُعْتَمِرُ، حَدَّثَنِي الْحَكَمُ بْنُ أَبَانَ، عَنِ الْغِطْرِيفِ أَبِي هَارُونَ، قَالَ:

بَعَثَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ رَجُلَيْنِ فِي حَاجَةٍ فِي رَمَضَانَ، فَتَقَدَّمَ إِلَى أَحَدِهِمَا أَنْ لَا يَصُومَ، وَسَكَتَ عَنِ الْآخَرِ فَصَامَ، فَلَمَّا قَدِمَا قَالَ: مَا صَنَعْتُمَا ؟ قَالَ أَحَدُهُمَا: صُمْتُ، وَقَالَ الْآخَرُ: لَمْ أَصُمْ، قَالَ ﷺ: كِلَاكُمَا قَدْ أَصَابَ

Translation

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent two men on an errand in Ramadan, and he instructed one of them not to fast, and was silent about the other, so he fasted. When they returned, he said: 'What did you do?' One of them said: 'I fasted,' and the other said: 'I did not fast.' He ﷺ said: 'Both of you have done right.'
