✧ The Prophet ﷺ prayed one of the two evening prayers - and my strongest thought is that it was Zuhr - two rak'ahs. Then he came to a piece of wood in the qiblah of the mosque and placed his hands on it, one over the other. The quick people left and said, "The prayer has been shortened." Among the people were Abu Bakr and 'Umar, and they were afraid to speak to him. A man - short in hands or long - called Dhu al-Yadayn said, "Has the prayer been shortened or did you forget?" He said, "It has not been shortened and I did not forget." He said, "Rather you forgot." He said, "Has Dhu al-Yadayn spoken the truth?" He said, "Yes." So he prayed two rak'ahs, then said the salam, then said takbir and prostrated like his prostration or longer, then raised.

- Ibn ʿAbd al-Barr
