✧ Was Ibn Mas'ud present with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on the night of the jinn? 'Alqamah said: I asked Ibn Mas'ud, saying: 'Did any of you witness with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ the night of the jinn?' He said: 'No, but we were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ one night and we lost him. We searched for him in the valleys and mountain passes, and we said: "He has been taken by the jinn or assassinated."' He said: 'We spent the worst night that any people have ever spent. When morning came, behold, he came from the direction of Hira'. He said: 'We said: "O Messenger of Allah! We lost you, so we searched for you but did not find you, and we spent the worst night that any people have ever spent." He said: "A caller from the jinn came to me, so I went with him and recited the Quran to them."' He said: 'He took us and showed us their fires.' He said: 'They asked him for provision, and he said: "For you is every bone upon which the name of Allah has been mentioned—it will come into your hands with more meat than it ever had—and every piece of dung is fodder for your riding beasts." Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "So do not cleanse yourselves with these two, for they are the food of your brothers."' This is the hadith of 'Abd al-A'la. In the hadith of Ibn Abi Za'idah, he said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Do not cleanse yourselves with bone or dung, for it is the provision of your brothers among the jinn.'
