✧ He came to Jabir b. Abd Allah, he and a group of people whom he named. When they entered upon him, they found him praying in a single garment, wrapped in it with its two ends crossed, and his cloak was near him such that if he reached for it, he would have gotten it. When he said the salam, they asked him about his praying in a single garment. He said, 'I do this so that fools like you may see me and spread from Jabir a concession that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ granted. I went out with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on one of his journeys, and I came to him one night for some need of mine, and I found him praying while I had on a single garment that I had wrapped myself in, and I prayed beside him. When he finished, he said, "What is this night travel, O Jabir?" I told him of my need. When I finished, he said, "O Jabir, what is this wrapping that I saw?" I said, "It was a single, narrow garment." He said, "When you pray and you have on a single garment: if it is wide, wrap yourself in it; and if it is narrow, use it as a waist-wrapper."'
