✧ Removal of Sins and Raising of Ranks by Performing Ablution Thoroughly Despite Hardship

أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو طَاهِرٍ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ حُجْرٍ السَّعْدِيُّ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ - يَعْنِي ابْنَ جَعْفَرٍ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا الْعَلَاءُ - وَهُوَ ابْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ وَحَدَّثَنَا بِشْرُ بْنُ مُعَاذٍ الْعَقَدِيُّ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ زُرَيْعٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا رَوْحُ بْنُ الْقَاسِمِ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا الْعَلَاءُ، وَحَدَّثَنَا يُونُسُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْأَعْلَى، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ، أَنَّ مَالِكًا حَدَّثَهُ، عَنِ الْعَلَاءِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ:

أَلَا أَدُلُّكُمْ عَلَى مَا يَمْحُو اللهُ بِهِ الْخَطَايَا، وَيَرْفَعُ بِهِ الدَّرَجَاتِ ؟ قَالُوا: بَلَى يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، قَالَ: " إِسْبَاغُ الْوُضُوءِ عَلَى الْمَكَارِهِ، وَكَثْرَةُ الْخُطَا إِلَى الْمَسَاجِدِ، وَانْتِظَارُ الصَّلَاةِ بَعْدَ الصَّلَاةِ. فَذَلِكُمُ الرِّبَاطُ، فَذَلِكُمُ الرِّبَاطُ "، لَفْظًا وَاحِدًا، غَيْرَ أَنَّ عَلِيَّ بْنَ حُجْرٍ قَالَ: [" فَذَلِكُمُ الرِّبَاطُ " مَرَّةً] وَقَالَ يُونُسُ فِي حَدِيثِهِ: " أَلَا أُخْبِرُكُمْ بِمَا يَمْحُو اللهُ بِهِ الْخَطَايَا ؟

✧ Should I not guide you to that by which Allah erases sins and raises ranks? They said: Yes, O Messenger of Allah. He said: Perfecting ablution despite difficulties, taking many steps to the mosques, and waiting for the next prayer after the previous prayer. That is the steadfast guarding (ribāṭ), that is the steadfast guarding (ribāṭ). He said it once, except that ʿAlī b. Ḥujr said: [“That is the steadfast guarding” once]. And Yūnus said in his hadith: “Should I not inform you of what erases sins?”
