✧ defects in livestock that make them invalid as Hadi or Udhiyah

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدٌ - يَعْنِي ابْنَ جَعْفَرٍ وَيَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، وَأَبُو دَاوُدَ، وَعَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مَهْدِيٍّ، وَابْنُ أَبِي عَدِيٍّ، وَأَبُو الْوَلِيدِ قَالُوا: حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ [قَالَ ]: سَمِعْتُ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنَ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ عُبَيْدَ بْنَ فَيْرُوزَ قَالَ: قُلْتُ لِلْبَرَاءِ:

حَدِّثْنِي مَا كَرِهَ أَوْ نَهَى عَنْهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ مِنَ الْأَضَاحِيِّ، فَقَالَ: [ قَالَ ] رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ هَكَذَا بِيَدِهِ، وَيَدِي أَقْصَرُ مِنْ يَدِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ: أَرْبَعٌ لَا تُجْزِئُ فِي الْأَضَاحِيِّ: الْعَوْرَاءُ الْبَيِّنُ عَوَرُهَا، وَالْمَرِيضَةُ الْبَيِّنُ مَرَضُهَا، وَالْعَرْجَاءُ الْبَيِّنُ ظَلْعُهَا، وَالْكَسِيرَةُ الَّتِي لَا تُنْقِي " قَالَ: فَإِنِّي أَكْرَهُ أَنْ يَكُونَ نَقْصٌ فِي الْأُذُنِ وَالْقَرْنِ. قَالَ: فَمَا كَرِهْتَ فَدَعْهُ، وَلَا تُحَرِّمْهُ عَلَى غَيْرِكَ

✧ He said: Tell me what the Messenger of Allah ﷺ disliked or prohibited among sacrificial animals. He said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, gesturing with his hand like this — and my hand is shorter than the hand of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ — “Four will not suffice in sacrificial animals: the one-eyed whose blindness is evident, the sick whose sickness is evident, the lame whose lameness is evident, and the emaciated that has no marrow.” He said: I also dislike that there be a defect in the ear or the horn. He said: What you dislike, leave it, but do not prohibit it to others.
