✧ Virtue of Guarding the Sight, Hearing, and Tongue on the Day of Arafah

قَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ: وَرَوَى سُكَيْنُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ الْبَصْرِيُّ، وَأَنَا بَرِيءٌ مِنْ عُهْدَتِهِ وَعُهْدَةِ أَبِيهِ، قَالَ أَبِي: سَمِعْتُهُ يَقُولُ: حَدَّثَنِي ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ، عَنِ الْفَضْلِ بْنِ عَبَّاسٍ

أَنَّهُ كَانَ رَدِيفَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ يَوْمَ عَرَفَةَ، فَجَعَلَ الْفَضْلُ يُلَاحِظُ النِّسَاءَ، وَيَنْظُرُ إِلَيْهِنَّ، وَجَعَلَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يَصْرِفُ وَجْهَهُ بِيَدِهِ مِنْ خَلْفِهِ، وَجَعَلَ الْفَتَى يُلَاحِظُ إِلَيْهِنَّ، فَقَالَ [لَهُ ] رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: يَا ابْنَ أَخِي، إِنَّ هَذَا يَوْمٌ مَنْ مَلَكَ فِيهِ سَمْعَهُ وَبَصَرَهُ وَلِسَانَهُ غُفِرَ لَهُ

✧ He was riding behind the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on the Day of 'Arafah. Al-Fadl began glancing at the women and looking at them, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ kept turning his face away with his hand from behind him. The young man kept glancing at them, so the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him: O son of my brother, this is a day on which whoever controls his hearing, his sight, and his tongue will be forgiven.
