أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو طَاهِرٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو إِسْمَاعِيلَ التِّرْمِذِيُّ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو تَوْبَةَ الرَّبِيعُ بْنُ نَافِعٍ الْحَلَبِيُّ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ سَلَّامٍ، عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ سَلَّامٍ، أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ أَبَا سَلَّامٍ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو أَسْمَاءَ الرَّحَبِيُّ، أَنَّ ثَوْبَانَ مَوْلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ حَدَّثَهُ قَالَ:

كُنْتُ قَاعِدًا عِنْدَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَجَاءَهُ حَبْرٌ مِنْ أَحْبَارِ الْيَهُودِ، فَقَالَ: سَلَامٌ عَلَيْكَ يَا مُحَمَّدُ، فَدَفَعْتُهُ دَفْعَةً كَادَ يُصْرَعُ مِنْهَا، فَقَالَ: لِمَ تَدْفَعُنِي ؟ فَقُلْتُ: أَلَا تَقُولُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ ؟ قَالَ الْيَهُودِيُّ: إِنَّمَا نَدْعُوهُ بِاسْمِهِ الَّذِي سَمَّاهُ بِهِ أَهْلُهُ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: " إِنَّ اسْمِي مُحَمَّدٌ الَّذِي سَمَّانِي بِهِ أَهْلِي ". قَالَ الْيَهُودِيُّ: جِئْتُ أَسْأَلُكَ، قَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: " أَيَنْفَعُكَ إِنْ حَدَّثْتُكَ ؟ " قَالَ: أَسْمَعُ بِأُذُنَيَّ، فَنَكَتَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ بِعُودٍ مَعَهُ، فَقَالَ: " سَلْ "، فَقَالَ الْيَهُودِيُّ: أَيْنَ يَكُونُ النَّاسُ يَوْمَ تُبَدَّلُ الْأَرْضُ غَيْرَ الْأَرْضِ وَالسَّمَاوَاتُ ؟ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: " فِي الظُّلْمَةِ دُونَ الْجِسْرِ ". قَالَ: فَمَنْ أَوَّلُ النَّاسِ إِجَازَةً ؟ قَالَ: " فُقَرَاءُ الْمُهَاجِرِينَ ". قَالَ: فَمَا تُحْفَتُهُمْ حِينَ يَدْخُلُونَ الْجَنَّةَ ؟ قَالَ: " زِيَادَةُ كَبِدِ النُّونِ ". قَالَ: فَمَا غِذَاؤُهُمْ عَلَى أَثَرِهِ ؟ قَالَ: " يُنْحَرُ لَهُمْ ثَوْرُ الْجَنَّةِ الَّذِي كَانَ يَأْكُلُ مِنْ أَطْرَافِهَا ". قَالَ: فَمَا شَرَابُهُمْ عَلَيْهِ ؟ قَالَ: " مِنْ عَيْنٍ فِيهَا تُسَمَّى سَلْسَبِيلًا ". قَالَ: صَدَقْتَ، وَجِئْتُ أَسْأَلُكَ عَنْ شَيْءٍ لَا يَعْلَمُهُ [أَحَدٌ] مِنْ أَهْلِ الْأَرْضِ إِلَّا نَبِيٌّ أَوْ رَجُلٌ أَوْ رَجُلَانِ ". قَالَ: " يَنْفَعُكَ إِنْ حَدَّثْتُكَ ؟ " قَالَ: أَسْمَعُ بِأُذُنَيَّ. قَالَ: جِئْتُ أَسْأَلُكَ عَنِ الْوَلَدِ، قَالَ: " مَاءُ الرَّجُلِ أَبْيَضُ، وَمَاءُ الْمَرْأَةِ أَصْفَرُ، فَإِذَا اجْتَمَعَا فَعَلَا مَنِيُّ الرَّجُلِ مَنِيَّ الْمَرْأَةِ أَذْكَرَا بِإِذْنِ اللهِ، وَإِذَا عَلَا مَنِيُّ الْمَرْأَةِ مَنِيَّ الرَّجُلِ أَنَّثَا بِإِذْنِ اللهِ " قَالَ الْيَهُودِيُّ: صَدَقْتَ وَإِنَّكَ لَنَبِيٌّ ثُمَّ انْصَرَفَ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: " سَأَلَنِي هَذَا عَنِ الَّذِي سَأَلَنِي عَنْهُ، وَمَا لِي عِلْمٌ بِشَيْءٍ مِنْهُ حَتَّى أَتَانِيَ اللهُ بِهِ

✧ I was sitting with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ when a rabbi from among the Jewish rabbis came to him and said: “Peace be upon you, O Muhammad.” I pushed him with a push that nearly knocked him down. He said: “Why did you push me?” I said: “Will you not say: O Messenger of Allah?” The Jew said: “We call him by the name his family gave him.” The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “My name is Muhammad, which my family gave me.” The Jew said: “I have come to ask you.” The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him: “Will it benefit you if I tell you?” He said: “I will listen with my ears.” The Messenger of Allah ﷺ made a mark with a stick he had and said: “Ask.” The Jew said: “Where will the people be on the day when the earth is changed to other than the earth, and the heavens too?” The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “In the darkness before the bridge.” He said: “Who will be the first of the people to cross?” He said: “The poor among the Muhājirūn.” He said: “What is their gift when they enter Paradise?” He said: “An extra lobe of the liver of the whale.” He said: “What will be their food after that?” He said: “The ox of Paradise that used to eat from its edges will be slaughtered for them.” He said: “What will be their drink upon it?” He said: “From a spring in it called Salsabīl.” He said: “You have spoken the truth. And I have come to ask you about something that no one among the people of the earth knows except a prophet or a man or two men.” He said: “Will it benefit you if I tell you?” He said: “I will listen with my ears.” He said: “I have come to ask you about the child.” He said: “The fluid of the man is white, and the fluid of the woman is yellow. When they meet and the man’s semen overcomes the woman’s semen, the child is male by Allah’s permission, and when the woman’s semen overcomes the man’s semen, the child is female by Allah’s permission.” The Jew said: “You have spoken the truth, and you are indeed a prophet.” Then he left. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “This one asked me about what he asked me, and I had no knowledge of any of it until Allah informed me.”
