✧ When we came to the land of Abyssinia, we had the best of neighbors there, the Negus. She then mentioned the hadith in full, and said in the hadith: She said: The one who spoke to him was Ja'far b. Abi Talib. He said to him: O king, we were a people of ignorance, worshipping idols, eating carrion, committing indecencies, severing ties of kinship, and mistreating neighbors. The strong among us would devour the weak. We remained upon that until God sent to us a Messenger from among us, whose lineage, truthfulness, trustworthiness, and chastity we recognized. He called us to God to declare His oneness, to worship Him, and to cast off what we and our fathers worshipped besides Him of stones and idols. He commanded us to speak the truth, fulfill trusts, maintain ties of kinship, be good to neighbors, and refrain from what is forbidden and from bloodshed. He forbade us from indecencies, false speech, consuming the orphan's property, and slandering chaste women, and commanded that we worship God alone, associating nothing with Him. He commanded us to pray, give zakat, and fast." She said: He enumerated to him the matters of Islam. So we believed him and had faith in him, and followed him in what he brought from God. We worshipped God alone, without associating anything with Him, forbade what He forbade us, and deemed lawful what He made lawful for us.
