✧ The collective chapters on the severity of withholding zakat

حَدَّثَنَا بِشْرُ بْنُ مُعَاذٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ زُرَيْعٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ أَبِي عَرُوبَةَ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ، عَنْ سَالِمِ بْنِ أَبِي الْجَعْدِ الْغَطَفَانِيِّ، عَنْ مَعْدَانَ بْنِ أَبِي طَلْحَةَ، عَنْ ثَوْبَانَ، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ:

مَنْ تَرَكَ بَعْدَهُ كَنْزًا مُثِّلَ لَهُ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ شُجَاعًا أَقْرَعَ، لَهُ زَبِيبَتَانِ يَتْبَعُهُ، فَيَقُولُ: وَيْلَكَ مَا أَنْتَ ؟ فَيَقُولُ: أَنَا كَنْزُكَ الَّذِي تَرَكْتَهُ بَعْدَكَ، فَلَا يَزَالُ يَتْبَعُهُ حَتَّى يُلْقِمَهُ يَدَهُ فَيُقَصْقِصُهَا، ثُمَّ يَتْبَعُهُ سَائِرَ جَسَدِهِ

✧ Whoever leaves behind a treasure, it will be represented for him on the Day of Resurrection as a bald-headed snake with two fangs, pursuing him. He will say, 'Woe to you, what are you?' It will say, 'I am your treasure that you left behind.' It will keep pursuing him until it makes him swallow his hand, and then it will crunch it, and then it will pursue the rest of his body.
