حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ، وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى، قَالَا: حَدَّثَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ عَاصِمٍ الْكِلَابِيُّ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا عِمْرَانُ - وَهُوَ ابْنُ دَاوَرَ أَبُو الْعَوَّامِ الْقَطَّانُ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا مَعْمَرُ بْنُ رَاشِدٍ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ قَالَ:

لَمَّا تُوُفِّيَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ ارْتَدَّتِ الْعَرَبُ، فَقَالَ عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ: يَا أَبَا بَكْرٍ، أَتُرِيدُ أَنْ تُقَاتِلَ الْعَرَبَ ؟ قَالَ: فَقَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ: إِنَّمَا قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: أُمِرْتُ أَنْ أُقَاتِلَ النَّاسَ؛ حَتَّى يَشْهَدُوا أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ، وَأَنِّي رَسُولُ اللهِ، وَيُقِيمُوا الصَّلَاةَ، وَيُؤْتُوا الزَّكَاةَ، وَاللهِ لَوْ مَنَعُونِي عَنَاقًا مِمَّا كَانُوا يُعْطُونَ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ لَأُقَاتِلَنَّهُمْ عَلَيْهِ. قَالَ: قَالَ عُمَرُ: " فَلَمَّا رَأَيْتُ رَأْيَ أَبِي بَكْرٍ قَدْ شُرِحَ عَلَيْهِ عَلِمْتُ أَنَّهُ الْحَقُّ

✧ When the Messenger of God ﷺ passed away, the Arabs apostatized. Umar b. al-Khattab said, 'O Abu Bakr, do you intend to fight the Arabs?' He said: Abu Bakr said, 'The Messenger of God ﷺ only said: I have been commanded to fight the people until they testify that there is no god but God and that I am the Messenger of God, and establish prayer, and give zakat. By God, if they withhold from me a young she-goat that they used to give to the Messenger of God ﷺ, I will surely fight them for it.' He said: Umar said, 'When I saw that Abu Bakr's opinion had been opened up for him, I knew that it was the truth.'
