✧ I came to Safwan b. 'Assal al-Muradi to ask him about wiping over the leather socks. He said: What brings you, O Zirr? I said: Seeking knowledge. He said: O Zirr! The angels lower their wings for the seeker of knowledge, pleased with what he seeks. He said: I said: Something occurred to me about wiping over the leather socks after defecation, and you are one of the companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Have you heard the Messenger of Allah mention anything about that? He said: Yes. He used to command us, when we were traveling – or he said: travelers – not to remove our leather socks for three days and their nights, except from major ritual impurity (janabah), but not from defecation, urination, or sleep.
