✧ I came to Ṣafwān b. ʿAssāl al-Murādī, and he said, “What brings you?” I said, “I came to seek knowledge.” He said, “I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: ‘No one goes out of his house in search of knowledge but the angels lower their wings for him, pleased with what he is doing.’” He said, “I have come to ask you about wiping over the khuffayn.” He said, “Yes, we were in the army that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent, and he commanded us to wipe over the khuffayn when we put them on in a state of purity—for three [days] when we traveled, and for a night when we resided—and not to remove them because of defecation or urination, and not to remove them except because of janābah.” And he said, “I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: ‘In the west there is an open gate for repentance, whose distance is seventy years; it will not be closed until the sun rises from its west.’”
