✧ The collective chapters on the new moons and the time of the beginning of the fast of Ramadan

حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ هَاشِمٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مَهْدِيٍّ، عَنْ مُعَاوِيَةَ بْنِ صَالِحٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ أَبِي قَيْسٍ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ عَائِشَةَ تَقُولُ:

كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يَتَحَفَّظُ مِنْ هِلَالِ شَعْبَانَ مَا لَا يَتَحَفَّظُ مِنْ غَيْرِهِ، ثُمَّ يَصُومُ لِرُؤْيَةِ رَمَضَانَ، فَإِنْ غُمَّ عَلَيْهِ عَدَّ ثَلَاثِينَ يَوْمًا، ثُمَّ صَامَ

Translation

  5. ʿĀʾishah

✧ The Messenger of God ﷺ would watch for the crescent of Sha'ban more than he watched for others, then he would fast upon the sighting of Ramadan. If it was overcast for him, he would count thirty days, then fast.
