وَحَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مِسْكِينٍ الْيَمَامِيُّ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا بِشْرٌ ( يَعْنِي ابْنَ بَكْرٍ )، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا الْأَوْزَاعِيُّ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو سَلَمَةَ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ:

بَيْنَمَا عُمَرُ يَخْطُبُ النَّاسَ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ إِذْ دَخَلَ عُثْمَانُ بْنُ عَفَّانَ، فَعَرَّضَ بِهِ، فَقَالَ: مَا بَالُ رِجَالٍ يَتَأَخَّرُونَ بَعْدَ النِّدَاءِ ؟ قَالَ عُثْمَانُ: يَا أَمِيرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ، مَا زِدْتُ حِينَ سَمِعْتُ النِّدَاءَ أَنْ تَوَضَّأْتُ ثُمَّ أَقْبَلْتُ، قَالَ: الْوُضُوءُ أَيْضًا ؟ أَوَلَمْ تَسْمَعْ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ: إِذَا جَاءَ أَحَدُكُمُ الْجُمُعَةَ فَلْيَغْتَسِلْ ؟

✧ While ʿUmar was addressing the people on Friday, ʿUthmān b. ʿAffān entered, and he alluded to him, saying: What is the matter with men who delay after the call? ʿUthmān said: O Commander of the Faithful, I did no more than perform ablution when I heard the call and then came. He said: Ablution too? Did you not hear the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: When one of you comes to Friday, let him bathe?
