✧ There are two matters about which I will not ask anyone after what I witnessed from the Messenger of God ﷺ. We were with him on a journey, and he went out to relieve himself, then he came and performed ablution, wiping his forelock and the sides of his turban, and wiped over his leather socks. He said: And the prayer of the imam behind a man with his congregation. And I witnessed from the Messenger of God ﷺ that he was on a journey, and the prayer time came, but the Prophet ﷺ was delayed from them, so they established the prayer and put Ibn 'Awf forward, and he led them in part of the prayer. Then the Prophet ﷺ came and prayed behind Ibn 'Awf the remainder of the prayer. When Ibn 'Awf said the salam, the Prophet ﷺ stood and made up what he had missed.

machine translationI asked my father and Abū Zurʿah about a hadith narrated by Ibn al-Mubārak, from ʿAwf and Hishām, from Muḥammad b. Sīrīn, who said: ʿAmr b. Wahb informed us that al-Mughīrah b. Shuʿbah narrated to him from the Prophet ﷺ regarding wiping over the leather socks. My father said: Ayyūb al-Sakhtiyānī narrated it, in the narration of Ḥammād b. Zayd, from Ayyūb, from Muḥammad, from Abū ʿAbdillāh, from ʿAmr b. Wahb, from al-Mughīrah, from the Prophet ﷺ. Abū Zurʿah said: Some of the companions of Ibn ʿAwn narrated it from Ibn ʿAwn, from Muḥammad, from ʿAmr b. Wahb, from a man, from another, from al-Mughīrah, from the Prophet ﷺ. I said to Abū Zurʿah: Which of the two is correct? He said: ʿAmr, from a man, from another, from al-Mughīrah.
