✧ A group of people came to him disputing about the minbar: from which wood it was and who made it. Sahl said: "By Allah, I know from which wood it is and who made it. I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on the first day he stood on it. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent to a certain woman - he named her that day, but I have forgotten her name - saying: 'Tell your carpenter slave to make me some wooden planks on which I can address the people.' So he made these three steps from tamarisk wood of al-Ghabah. I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ stand on it and say the takbir, and the people behind him said the takbir. Then he bowed and the people bowed. Then he raised his head and descended backward, then prostrated at the base of the minbar. Then he returned until he completed the rest of his prayer. Then he turned to them and said: 'I did this only so that you may follow me and learn my prayer.'"
