✧ Removal of Sins and Elevation of Ranks by Walking to Prayer While in a State of Ablution

أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو طَاهِرٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا يُوسُفُ بْنُ مُوسَى، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرٌ، عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ، ( ح )، وَحَدَّثَنَا الدَّوْرَقِيُّ، وَسَلْمُ بْنُ جُنَادَةَ قَالَا: حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ، عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ، وَقَالَ الدَّوْرَقِيُّ: قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ، ( ح )، وَحَدَّثَنَا بُنْدَارٌ، وَأَبُو مُوسَى قَالَا: حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي عَدِيٍّ، عَنْ شُعْبَةَ، عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ، ( ح )، وَحَدَّثَنَا بِشْرُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ الْعَسْكَرِيُّ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ جَعْفَرٍ، عَنْ شُعْبَةَ، عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ، عَنْ ذَكْوَانَ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ:
صَلَاةُ أَحَدِكُمْ فِي جَمَاعَةٍ تَزِيدُ عَلَى صَلَاتِهِ وَحْدَهُ فِي بَيْتِهِ وَفِي سُوقِهِ بِضْعٍ وَعِشْرِينَ دَرَجَةً، وَذَلِكَ أَنَّ أَحَدَكُمْ إِذَا تَوَضَّأَ فَأَحْسَنَ الْوُضُوءَ، ثُمَّ خَرَجَ إِلَى الصَّلَاةِ لَا يُرِيدُ غَيْرَهَا، لَمْ يَخْطُ خُطْوَةً إِلَّا رَفَعَهُ اللهُ بِهَا دَرَجَةً، وَحَطَّ عَنْهُ بِهَا خَطِيئَةً "، هَذَا حَدِيثُ بُنْدَارٍ. وَقَالَ أَبُو مُوسَى: أَوْ حَطَّ عَنْهُ، وَقَالَ بِشْرُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ، وَسَلْمُ بْنُ جُنَادَةَ، وَالدَّوْرَقِيُّ: وَحَطَّ عَنْهُ، وَقَالَ الدَّوْرَقِيُّ: حَتَّى يَدْخُلَ الْمَسْجِدَ

✧ A man's prayer in congregation exceeds his prayer alone in his house and in his market by more than twenty degrees. That is because when one of you performs ablution and does it well, then goes out to the prayer intending nothing else, he does not take a step but that God raises him a degree by it and removes from him a sin by it. This is the hadith of Bundar. Abu Musa said: "or removes from him." Bishr b. Khalid, Salm b. Junadah, and al-Dawraqi said: "and removes from him." Al-Dawraqi said: "until he enters the mosque."
