  • Ibn ʿAbd al-Barr

machine translationThey used as evidence the hadith of Abū Baṣīr from Ubayy b. Kaʿb, raised to the Prophet (marfūʿ), to that effect, but it is a hadith that is not strong (laysa bi-l-qawī).

  • Abū Ḥatim al-Rāzī

machine translationAbū Isḥāq had a wide range of hadith. It is possible that he heard from Abū Baṣīr, that he heard from Ibn Abī Baṣīr from Abū Baṣīr, and that he heard from al-ʿAyzār from Abū Baṣīr. My father said: I heard Sulaymān b. Ḥarb say: Wahb b. Jarīr informed me, he said: Shuʿbah said: Abū Isḥāq heard this hadith from both ʿAbdullāh b. Abī Baṣīr and from Abū Baṣīr.

machine translationThe chain of this hadith is sound (ṣaḥīḥ) except for one man, namely ʿAbdullāh b. Abī Baṣīr, the narrator from Ubayy. They remained silent about him, and Abū Dāwūd did not declare him weak. ʿAlī b. al-Madīnī, al-Bayhaqī and others have indicated its soundness.
