أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو طَاهِرٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْأَنْصَارِيُّ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي، عَنْ ثُمَامَةَ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ قَالَ:

كَانَ عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ إِذَا قُحِطُوا خَرَجَ يَسْتَسْقِي بِالْعَبَّاسِ، فَيَقُولُ: " اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّا كُنَّا إِذَا قُحِطْنَا اسْتَسْقَيْنَا بِنَبِيِّكَ فَتَسْقِينَا، وَإِنَّا نَسْتَسْقِيكَ الْيَوْمَ بِعَمِّ نَبِيِّكَ - أَوْ نَبِيِّنَا - فَاسْقِنَا، فَيُسْقَوْنَ.

✧ Whenever drought afflicted them, 'Umar b. al-Khattab would go out to seek rain through al-'Abbas, and say: O Allah, we used to seek rain through Your Prophet and You would give us rain, and today we seek rain through the uncle of Your Prophet—or our Prophet—so give us rain. Then they would be given rain.
