أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو طَاهِرٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ، وَأَبُو مُوسَى مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى قَالَا: حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي الْأَشْعَثُ بْنُ سُلَيْمٍ، عَنِ الْأَسْوَدِ بْنِ هِلَالٍ، عَنْ ثَعْلَبَةَ بْنِ زَهْدَمٍ قَالَ:
كُنَّا مَعَ سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْعَاصِ بِطَبَرِسْتَانَ، فَقَالَ: أَيُّكُمْ صَلَّى مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ صَلَاةَ الْخَوْفِ ؟ فَقَالَ حُذَيْفَةُ: أَنَا، قَالَ: فَقَامَ حُذَيْفَةُ فَصَفَّ النَّاسَ خَلْفَهُ صَفَّيْنِ صَفًّا خَلْفَهُ وَصَفًّا مُوَازِيَ الْعَدُوِّ، فَصَلَّى بِالَّذِينَ خَلْفَهُ رَكْعَةً، ثُمَّ انْصَرَفَ هَؤُلَاءِ مَكَانَ هَؤُلَاءِ، وَجَاءَ أُولَئِكَ فَصَلَّى بِهِمْ رَكْعَةً وَلَمْ يَقْضُوا
Translation

✧ We were with Sa'id b. al-'As in Tabaristan, and he said: "Which of you prayed the prayer of fear with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ?" Hudhayfah said: "I did." He said: So Hudhayfah stood and arranged the people in two rows behind him, one row behind him and one row facing the enemy. He prayed one rak'ah with those behind him, then these withdrew to the place of those, and those came forward, and he prayed one rak'ah with them, and they did not make up anything.
