✧ The mosque in the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was built of mud bricks, its roof was of palm branches, and its pillars were of palm trunks. Abu Bakr did not add anything to it. Umar added to it and built it upon its original construction from the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ with mud bricks and palm branches, and he replaced its pillars with wood. Then Uthman changed it, adding greatly to it, building its walls with carved stones and plaster, making its pillars of carved stones, and its roof of teak. Muhammad b. Yahya said: "And its pillars were of palm trunks."
