✧ I said to Ibn Umar: What is the origin of this pebble in the mosque? He said: We were rained upon at night, so we came to the mosque for prayer. He said: A man would carry pebbles in his garment and throw them, then pray on them. When morning came, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "What is this?" They told him, and he said: "What an excellent carpet this is." He said: So the people adopted it." He said: I said: What was the origin of this saffron? He said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came for the dawn prayer and found phlegm in the qiblah of the mosque. He scraped it and said: "How ugly this is." He said: The man who had spat came and scraped it, then smeared saffron over it... He said: "This is better than that." He said: I said: What about one of us when he relieves himself and looks at it when he gets up from it? He said: "The angel says to him: Look at what you were stingy with and what it has become."
