✧ O Mother of the Believers, tell me about the character of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. She said: 'Do you not recite the Qur'an?'—meaning His saying: 'And indeed, you are of a great moral character.' He said: 'Yes.' She said: 'The character of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was the Qur'an.' I said: 'O Mother of the Believers, tell me about the night prayer of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.' She said: 'Do you not recite this surah: "O you wrapped in garments"?' He said: 'Yes.' She said: 'Allah made night prayer obligatory at the beginning of this surah, so the Prophet of Allah ﷺ and his companions stood in prayer for a year until their feet swelled, and He withheld its concluding part for twelve months in the heaven. Then Allah sent down the relaxation at the end of this surah, and night prayer became voluntary after having been obligatory.' Then they mentioned the hadith, and at the end of the hadith he said: 'I went to Ibn Abbas and told him her hadith, and he said: "She spoke the truth."
