✧ Al-Abbas sent me to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, so I came to him in the evening while he was in the house of my maternal aunt Maymunah bt. al-Harith. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood to pray at night. When he had prayed the two rak'ahs of Fajr, he said: O Allah, I ask You for mercy from You with which You guide my heart, gather my affairs, mend my disarray, restore my affection, set right my religion, preserve my absent ones, elevate my present ones, purify my deeds, brighten my face, inspire me with right guidance, and protect me from every evil. O Allah, grant me sincere faith and certainty after which there is no disbelief, and mercy by which I attain the honor of Your generosity in this world and the Hereafter. O Allah, I ask You for success at the time of judgment, the resting place of martyrs, the life of the blessed, the companionship of the prophets, and victory over enemies. O Allah, I bring my need before You, though my judgment is short, my deeds are weak, and I am in need of Your mercy. I ask You, O Decider of affairs, O Healer of hearts, as You separate the seas, to save me from the punishment of the Blaze, from the call of destruction, and from the trial of the graves. O Allah, whatever good my judgment falls short of, my deeds are weak toward, and my intention has not reached—good that You have promised to any of Your servants or good that You will give to any of Your creation—I desire it from You and ask You for it, O Lord of the worlds. O Allah, make us guides who are guided, not astray and not leading astray, at war with Your enemies, at peace with Your allies. We love by Your love the people and we are hostile by Your enmity to those who oppose You. O Allah, this is the supplication, and upon You is the response—or the answer—(Ibn Khalaf was uncertain), and this is the effort, and upon You is the reliance. There is no power and no strength except with Allah. O Allah, Possessor of the strong rope and the right command, I ask You for security on the Day of Warning and Paradise on the Day of Eternity with the near ones who are witnesses, who bow and prostrate, who fulfill the covenants. Indeed, You are Merciful and Loving, and You do what You will. Glory be to the One who has wrapped Himself in might and spoken it. Glory be to the One who has clothed Himself in glory and is generous with it. Glory be to the One to whom glorification is due alone. Glory be to the One who has counted everything and knows it. Glory be to the Possessor of bounty and blessings. Glory be to the Possessor of power and generosity. O Allah, make for me a light in my heart, a light in my grave, a light in my hearing, a light in my sight, a light in my hair, a light in my skin, a light in my flesh, a light in my blood, a light in my bones, a light before me, a light behind me, a light on my right, a light on my left, a light above me, and a light below me. O Allah, increase me in light, grant me light, and make for me a light.
