حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ سَهْلٍ الرَّمْلِيُّ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا مُؤَمَّلُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا عُمَارَةُ بْنُ زَاذَانَ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا ثَابِتٌ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ قَالَ:

كَانَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ يُوتِرُ بِتِسْعِ رَكَعَاتٍ، فَلَمَّا أَسَنَّ وَثَقُلَ أَوْتَرَ بِسَبْعٍ، وَصَلَّى رَكْعَتَيْنِ وَهُوَ جَالِسٌ، يَقْرَأُ فِيهِنَّ بِالرَّحْمَنِ، وَالْوَاقِعَةِ [وَنَحْوِهِمَا]

Translation

✧ The Prophet ﷺ used to pray Witr with nine rak'ahs. When he grew older and became heavier, he prayed Witr with seven, and prayed two rak'ahs while sitting, reciting in them al-Rahman, al-Waqi'ah, and the like.
