✧ While al-Hajjaj was giving a sermon and Ibn 'Umar was present, with him two of his sons, one on his right and the other on his left, al-Hajjaj said: 'Ibn al-Zubayr has altered the Book of Allah; may Allah alter his heart.' He said: And Ibn 'Umar was facing him, so Ibn 'Umar said: 'That is neither in your hand nor in his.' He said: So al-Hajjaj fell silent, then said: 'Indeed Allah has taught us and every Muslim, and you, O old man, to be rational.' So Ibn 'Umar began to laugh. And he narrated it from 'Asim from Habib, who said: Then he jumped up, and his two sons sat him down. He said: 'Leave me, for I left the one which has virtue, that I should say to him: You lied.'
