✧ We were on a journey with the Messenger of God ﷺ, and we traveled through part of the night until when it was the pre-dawn period before morning we fell into that sleep—and no sleep is sweeter to the traveler than it—and nothing woke us except the heat of the sun. The first to wake up was so-and-so, then so-and-so—Abu Raja' used to name them, and 'Awf would name them—then 'Umar the fourth. The Messenger of God ﷺ, when he slept, we would not wake him until he woke up on his own, because we did not know what might happen to him in his sleep. When 'Umar b. al-Khattab woke up and saw what had befallen the people—and he was a man with a loud voice and strong—he said the takbir and raised his voice with it, and he kept saying the takbir and raising his voice until the Messenger of God ﷺ woke up at his voice. When he woke up, they complained to the Messenger of God ﷺ about what had befallen them, and he said: 'No harm' or 'It does not matter. Depart.' So they departed and traveled not far, then he dismounted and called for water and performed ablution, then he called for the prayer and led the people in prayer.
