The account of Rabi'a b. Nasr, king of Yemen
. [ أَمْرُ رَبِيعَةَ بْنِ نَصْرِ مَلِكِ الْيَمَنِ ] [ وَقِصَّةُ شِقٍّ وَسَطِيحٍ الْكَاهِنَيْنِ مَعَهُ ] [ رُؤْيَا رَبِيعَةَ بْنِ نَصْرٍ ] قَالَ ابْنُ إسْحَاقَ: وَكَانَ رَبِيعَةُ بْنُ نَصْرٍ مَلِكُ الْيَمَنِ بَيْنَ أَضْعَافِ مُلُوكِ التَّبَابِعَةِ فَرَأَى رُؤْيَا هَالَتْهُ وَفَظِعَ بِهَا فَلَمْ يَدَعْ كَاهِنًا، وَلَا سَاحِرًا، وَلَا عَائِفًا وَلَا مُنَجِّمًا مِنْ أَهْلِ مَمْلَكَتِهِ إلَّا جَمَعَهُ إلَيْهِ، فَقَالَ لَهُمْ: إنِّي قَدْ رَأَيْتُ رُؤْيَا هَالَتْنِي، وَفَظِعْتُ بِهَا، فَأَخْبِرُونِي بِهَا وَبِتَأْوِيلِهَا، قَالُوا لَهُ: اُقْصُصْهَا عَلَيْنَا نُخْبِرْكَ بِتَأْوِيلِهَا، قَالَ: إنِّي إنْ أَخْبَرْتُكُمْ بِهَا لَمْ أَطْمَئِنَّ إلَى خَبَرِكُمْ عَنْ تَأْوِيلِهَا، فَإِنَّهُ لَا يَعْرِفُ تَأْوِيلَهَا إلَّا مَنْ عَرَفَهَا قَبْلَ أَنْ أُخْبِرَهُ بِهَا. فَقَالَ لَهُ رَجُلٌ مِنْهُمْ: فَإِنْ كَانَ الْمَلِكُ يُرِيدُ هَذَا فَلْيَبْعَثْ إلَى سَطِيحٍ وَشِقٍّ، فَإِنَّهُ لَيْسَ أَحَدٌ أَعْلَمَ مِنْهُمَا، فَهُمَا يُخْبِرَانِهِ بِمَا سَأَلَ عَنْهُ
Translation
✧. [The affair of Rabīʿah b. Naṣr, king of Yemen] [And the story of Shiqq and Saṭīḥ, the two soothsayers, with him] [The dream of Rabīʿah b. Naṣr] Ibn Isḥāq said: Rabīʿah b. Naṣr, king of Yemen, was among the earlier kings of the Tubbaʿs. He saw a dream that terrified him and alarmed him, so he left no soothsayer, sorcerer, diviner, or astrologer among the people of his kingdom but gathered them to him. He said to them: "I have seen a dream that terrified me and alarmed me. Tell me it and its interpretation." They said to him: "Relate it to us and we will tell you its interpretation." He said: "If I tell you it, I will not be assured of your report about its interpretation, for only one who knew it before I told him would know its interpretation." A man among them said to him: "If the king desires this, let him send to Saṭīḥ and Shiqq, for there is no one more knowledgeable than the two of them. They will inform him of what he asked about."
